The Alaska State Troopers have revamped our hiring process and are excited to introduce the Pre-Academy Recruit (PAR) program.

During Governor Wally Hickel's first administration in 1967, the name was changed to the Alaska State Troopers. Under commissioner Mel Personett, the Troopers focused their work in areas of Alaska not being served by community police, and began to offer more sophisticated services to law enforcement organizations statewide.

Can I be hired on directly as an Alaska Wildlife Trooper or do I have to be hired as an Alaska State Trooper first? Yes, you can be hired directly to AWT, although most new Alaska Wildlife Troopers will be coming from the AST ranks after they have reached two years of seniority.
