Jul 21, 2024 · I made a top from 3/4” maple plywood, double layers for 1-1/2” total thickness. I screwed the bottom layer to the bench (2x4 frame) then glued+screwed the top layer from the underside for a smooth top. Finished with an epoxy paint. That bench was SOLID.

Jan 4, 2018 · No. The built in vise merely uses twin screws to move the wooden top halves in and out. Its fine for clamping wood and sheet metal, but doesn't have the clamping force to do serious work. Get a separate steel jawed cast iron vise. Drill holes in the tablet top and mount it properly.

Mar 19, 2020 · Decided to put together a new workbench in the garage. Nothing crazy. Dimensions will be 6 feet long, by 30” deep, and 36” in height. Legs will be made out of 4x4s. Rest of the frame will be 2x6s (with the exception of some 2x4 braces under the work area). Bench work area will be dimensional 2x lumber with a hardboard top.
