The Waccamaw Siouan Indians are one of eight state-recognized Native American tribes in North Carolina. Located predominantly in the southeastern North Carolina counties of Bladen and Columbus, in the communities of St. James, Buckhead, and Council.

Government - Waccamaw Siouan Tribe
The tribe is governed by the Waccamaw Siouan Tribal Council consisting of seven members who are elected by the tribal membership (any adult member, over 18) by secret ballot. They serve staggered terms of one to three years.
