May 15, 2020 · PG-13 is suggesting that viewers be age 13 with parental guidance (PG) and TV-14 is obviously 14 and TV just means television. R means restricted so is basically 18+. TV-MA means it's for people that are more mature (sex scenes, making out, violence gore, ect.) And if MA is in games it usually says 17 y/o so yeah

GP was intended for pre-teens. In the 80s, what used to be GP evolved to "PG-13." In the 90s, TV shows were restricted to TV-14.

Apr 10, 2015 · I think it's worth mentioning that originally there wasn't even a "PG-13." It went from PG to R in movies. Indiana Jones was originally rated R and Steven Spielberg didn't want it to be exclusively for adults, so he essentially brought PG-13 into existence, it could have easily been PG-14, just more people this way

That show could've easily been a TV-14 as it is, same with another FX show The Strain which was a TV-MA though it was pretty tame for that rating. A lot of FX sitcoms are just blanket-rated TV-MA when the episode-by-episode content doesn't really warrant it (ie: some episodes might say "shit" once and get slapped with a TV-MA for language).
