Mar 9, 2007 · The Rowan University “Professorial Owl” has been a misunderstood yet deeply dynamic figure for 50 years. Not only does Rowan’s Prof promote the sports teams, but he has also, over the years, become a proud endorser of the student publications, campus events and all-around Rowan pride.

The owl first came into the picture in 1955, when Glassboro cheerleaders sold “Professor Owl” stuffed animals as a fundraiser. They purchased an owl costume in November 1956 and Professor Owl was officially adopted as Glassboro’s mascot in 1957.

The Rowan Owl sculpture depicts a version of the Rowan mascot, the Prof, as it lands on a fragmented tree branch. This public art is located outside the Rowan University Team House.
