Mar 10, 2021 · The PBY-5A Catalina is the largest aircraft in the Palm Springs Air Museum fleet and is under restoration. The design is a result of the US Navy and Consolidated chasing another step in the development of amphibious aircraft.

The Palm Springs Air Museum is home to one of the world’s largest collections of flyable WWII aircraft and from Korea and Vietnam; and unlike many other museums, our air-conditioned hangars have no ropes to keep you from interacting with our exhibits.

The Palm Springs Air Museum is dedicated to the restoration, preservation and operation of America’s legendary fighters, bombers and trainers. It contains one of the world’s largest collections of flying WWII airplanes, including the Robert J. Pond Collection.

PBY Catalina “Flying Boat”, which had seen action in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. Acquired by the Palm Springs Air Museum in 2007. It was restored to military markings with nose art picturing Howard’s wife, Harriet.

May 3, 2014 · The PBY Catalina was a twin engine aircraft capable of land or sea landings. The system was crewed from 7 to 10 members depending on the model type and could run the gamut of missions as utilized primarily by the United States Navy.

Today, the museum consists of over 70 vintage static and flying aircraft and five hangars: the Pacific (Navy), the European (Army), B-17, General Ken Miles Korea / Vietnam / Cold War, and the F-117A.
