Feb 1, 2024 · While a de facto continuation of the UN-brokered truce, which formally elapsed on 2 October 2022, provided some relief to civilians, the overall situation in Yemen remains dire. A political agreement, leading to sustainable peace, is the only long-term solution to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

In early 2024, Yemen finds itself at a crossroads. Nine years since the escalation of the current conflict and over a year since the expiry of the truce between the parties, hope remains that a peaceful settlement of the conflict is in reach.

In 2025, an estimated 19.5 million people across Yemen need humanitarian assistance and protection services – 1.3 million people more than last year. The 2025 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) lays out a response that is locally-driven and grounded in the voices of affected communities.

Today in Yemen, 20.7 million people, two out of every three Yemenis, need some form of humanitarian and protection assistance. Of these, 12.1 million people are in acute need. More than half of the population are facing acute levels of food insecurity.
