Myrtle's personality itself was being very sensitive; she hardly ever smiled and took great offence at the smallest slight. She usually cried when she got sad, and when she did, she cried very loudly, hence her nickname Moaning Myrtle. She was often upset so badly that she tried to kill herself until she realised that she was already dead. [10]

Its definitely sad when teenager is killed. But Myrtle wasn't forced to haunt the bathroom where she died. After her death she left Hogwarts and haunted Olive Hornsby, her bully. The MofM ordered her to stay away from Olive, but it was her choice to return to Hogwarts and haunt the bathroom. And I don't recall her wanting to "self delete."
