Jul 29, 2017 · Since the last major update, the file explorer shows a blank icon for many file types instead of the associated application (such as Adobe Acrobat, Excel, Word etc.). The files are still associated correctly and re-associating them didn't solve the problem. I also deleted the icon cache and let Windows rebuild it, but that didn't help either.

Mar 6, 2011 · It is not freeware and expires after the trial period. And doesn't work well either in x64 at least. I have also tried to change the icons by the tutorial mentioned above and all I get is a white-file icon, not the one I want (to replace the ugly 7-zip icons for zip, rar, iso, etc).

Jun 10, 2016 · Editing: although, when I did change the default program for rtf files to notebook, they showed the notebook icons instead of the blank icon. But when changed back to wordpad, broken again. It seems that certain filetype and program combinations are not working to show the proper icon (although opening the files still works normal)

For example the 2 excel documents on my desktop are fine while on another drive the excel documents (and word) have no icon - but then in a sub-folder they are fine! EDIT: I just did option one in Icon Cache - Rebuild and now it is much worse. All the PDFs are broken, no excel ones are shown etc.

I have a program installed the customized icons for file types so that a pdf, for example, can have Acrobat as the default program, but still display the system pdf icon instead of the Adobe icon.
