The Counter Assault Team (CAT) is a specialized tactical unit of the U.S. Secret Service that provides tactical support to the Presidential Protective Division to protect the president of the United States.

Prior to being assigned to the Counter Assault Team (CAT), candidates must successfully complete two courses at the James J. Rowley Training Center (JJRTC). The first is a two-week CAT Selection Course, and the second is a seven-week CAT Basic Course.

Nov 25, 2008 · It’s most likely a KAC SR-16, which is a Colt M4A1 Carbine (select-fire, direct-gas-impingement)-derivative weapon. “KAC” stands for Knight’s Armament Company. From the photo, it doesn’t look like an HK416 (also written HK 416) gas piston/op-rod carbine or SBR (Short Barelled Rifle)/subcarbine.

Typically, CAT members deploy in black battle dress uniforms. Each member not otherwise assigned a heavier weapon is equipped with a SR-16 rifle, a SIG Sauer P229 pistol, and M84 stun grenades.
