Using this concept, the M4 is also a CAR-15, but since they became so popular with the US military, most people refer to the M4 as the M4, to differentiate it from all the rest, none of which have been nearly so popular.

Nov 5, 2021 · And in Vietnam there were MACV-SOG RTs (recon teams - 99% Special Forces) and conventional Army unit LRRP (long range reconnaissance patrol) units and Marine Force Recon companies. 10" barrel Model 609 CAR-15s used were actually designated Sub Machine Gun XM177E1s . About 2800 were purchased in 1966 & delivered through 1967.

Like said here, atleast the following Colts were used: Colt Mod 07 carbine, THE original CAR-15, with the prototype stock and A1 handguard type short handguards XM-177 (So called USAF version without forward assist, 10" barrel)

Mar 18, 2021 · At the 4:30 mark is my old Group commander from my time in the 5th Special Forces, Colonel Bowra. That’s a picture of him in Vietnam obviously. I don’t recall when he retired but he had 2 stars when he did so. One thing of note is the 2 position buffer tube.

Mar 1, 2012 · Stega, the most popular "CAR-15" builds around here are probably the XM177E2 and USAF GAU-5A. Reason for this is because with a permanently attached replica moderator, the overall length of the barrel plus moderator is 16 inches, very close to what the originals were.

Oct 16, 2003 · Original CAR-15 stock was rubber coated aluminum. That changed sometime in the late 70s to fiberlite or some such term, its plastic. Many M4s were issued with this 2d generation Car stock. Then came the ribbed stock, then the Crane Stock, the VLTOR ect What stock you use all depends on what you need it for and if your weapon is preban or not.

Jul 12, 2016 · Here's one installed on an 11.5" barrel... They are only .5" longer then the real deal (4.8" overall). They spread that 1/2" around so that it doesn't look too out of proportion (little bit extra at the wrench flat area, little extra in the body, and a little extra in the slots).

May 21, 2021 · Does anyone sell USGI Vietnam era general purpose slings that have been altered with para cord for use as a Commando sling? I have only seen the Troy Retro sling and unaltered GP straps for sale. I am looking for the most authentic GP conversion sling. Would prefer to get a made up one as opposed to trying to make one up myself.
