William [2] (Billy) Ray Brown (born April 5, 1963) is an American former professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1980s and 1990s, and a current on course reporter for Golf Channel [3] and commentator for CBS Sports.

Jan 14, 2025 · Billy Ray Brown has made a significant impact in the world of golf, both on and off the course. As a former professional golfer and a three-time PGA Tour winner, Brown’s transition to an on-course reporter for Golf Channel has made him a familiar face for golf enthusiasts.

Billy Ray Brown joined GOLF Channel in 2007, and currently serves as an on-course reporter for GOLF Channel’s PGA TOUR Champions and PGA TOUR live tournament coverage. Brown also contributes to the network’s coverage of college golf, including the NCAA Golf Championships.

Brown won three PGA Tour events in a career cut short by an injury and subsequent surgeries to his wrist. His best finish in a major championship was T-3 at the 1990 U.S. Open, one stroke out of the playoff. He had 17 top-10 finishes in 315 PGA Tour events.

May 29, 2023 · Billy Ray Brown went low – very low – finishing with a 7-under 65. Brown erased a four-shot deficit and now led the tournament by two shots. His 65 is the lowest round ever shot by a Cougar in the NCAA Championships (Michael Perras shot 65 in the 2016 regional).

Currently Brown works commentating on the Champions Tour, both for the Golf Channel, and for network television. Away from the world of golf, Brown enjoys hunting and fishing. As of the end of 2014 Brown had achieved three wins on the PGA Tour, amassing prize money of $2,330,388.
