Apr 25, 2010 · Of course beer yeast is more expensive than baker's yeast, unless I guess you're reusing yeast from your cake. Re my OP, they report an attenuation of 80% when using the bread yeast to ferment beer. On a more recent Basic Brewing Radio podcast a guest pointed out that until relatively recently in history, most bread and beer were made with the ...
Which baker’s yeast reigns supreme? : r/AskBaking - Reddit
Jan 8, 2023 · Fresh yeast, if you can get it, is still used pretty commonly for enthusiasts. You'll have to convert the amount but a lot of people prefer to use it over dried. It also depends on what kind of projects you're making. If you usually make enriched doughs with sugar and little salt (calculated by baker's percentage), maybe try an osmotolerant one.

Baker's Yeast for a Sahti - Homebrew Talk
Jul 13, 2011 · The traditional Sahti is brewed with just your basic baker's yeast, but I have been seeing some posts that people think baker's yeast is not legit for any kind of brewing. I have also read that not a lot of people care for a Sahti, which is another challenge I am trying to uptake, but I was just looking for some recommendations on yeast.
Used Baker's Yeast out of desperation, what can I expect?
Apr 27, 2014 · All that said, baker's yeast won't ferment as cleanly as brewer's yeast selected for beer, and likely has more wild microbes in it that yeast packaged for brewing. Still I've brewed and drank (Heavyweight brewed some gems with it in their dying days, East End still does) a number of solid beers fermented with baker's yeast.
Boiled Bakers Yeast as yeast nutrient - Homebrew Talk
May 12, 2011 · Yeah, yeast are cannibalistic, but don't fault them for that. I tossed some Cooper's yeast into the boil of a batch before (IMO, about all it's good for). Bakers Yeast vs Brewers Yeast vs Sourdough Starter?
Jul 31, 2022 · Both baker’s yeast and sourdough are going to give you a fairly low-quality product. Price being an issue, your best bet might be to pick up a $5 packet of dry brewing yeast and either build up a starter (so you can keep some for the next batch), or just save the cake at the bottom of one batch, and pitch a third or so of that in your next batch.
Safale us 05 vs baker's yeast? - Homebrew Talk
Apr 5, 2023 · Technically it will be a beer, however not a usual one. There is a traditional European style of farmhouse beer brewed with baker's yeast (I mean Finnish Sahti). Those Sahtis are rare specialties and they taste unlike a "normal" beer. They are VERY malty, if that's what you like. You don't need to resort to baker's yeast when you have some US-05.

Sep 25, 2023 · Yes, this specific strain of yeast can be used for brewing. However it’s most common market form is powder for a dietary supplement and to my knowledge this form is not suitable for hydration and being used as an actual yeast. Edit: forgot to mention that this yeast is a traditional ale yeast when it is an active yeast culture.
