May 31, 2020 · The idea behind those changes is that the Roman Empire is Greek now. Titles like Augustus or phrases like Imperium Romanum don't fit it anymore. The Byzantine Emperors stopped using Augustus as a part of their names after Heraclius Greek reforms, and they didn't refer to themselves in Latin after that.
