It doesn't seem to affect Edge, Windows Terminal Snipping Tool, etc.. Notepad++ had an update, once applied the icon seems ok.

Sep 25, 2009 · Notepad++ is a great application, it needs an unique icon (like the new one) and not a old icon that represents a text file. Congratulations to the Notepad++ team for the new icon. From the beginning, the chameleon was present on the Notepad++ site, so it's normal that it becomes the logo. In conclusion, I think the icon isn't really important.

If there was a plug-in for Notepad++ that let you enable a auto save feature and it had auto save saved it. All you would need to do is open a new Notepad++ and choose continue from where I left off.
