Netflix has seemingly obliterated transgender actor Karla Sofia Gascón from its Emilia Perez Oscars media campaign. Eagle-eyed social media followers shared new promotional material released as part of the Oscar campaign for the movie that negates the presence of Gascón.

Karla Sofia Gascon, the Oscar-nominated star of Emilia Perez, addressed backlash from resurfaced offensive tweets during an emotional interview.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the film's embattled best actress Oscar nominee Karla Sofía Gascon will no longer be coming to the U.S. for any of this week's many awards activities.

"Emilia Pérez" has faced controversy and criticism for various reasons. Among the most prominent is its portrayal of Mexico. The movie’s director, Jacques Audiard, is French, and none of its three lead cast members are of Mexican descent. Only one member of the core cast, Adriana Paz, is from Mexico.
