The Indian juggernaut in international chess remained unstoppable as Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa fought through exhaustion and nerves to defeat world champion D Gukesh in a clash of compatriots to clinch the Tata Steel Masters title for the first time in his prolific career.

R Praggnanandhaa made history on Sunday by defeating reigning World Champion and compatriot D Gukesh to claim his maiden Tata Steel Chess tournament crown, marking the biggest win of his career so far.

Praggnanandhaa revealed how D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi inspired him to work harder as he won the 2025 Tata Steel Chess Masters competition. Praggnanandhaa defeated Gukesh in sudden death to clinch the title.
