Canadian authorities announced the closure at the end of January, stating it "aligns with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which does not allow travelers to enter the U.S. from Canada on the trail.
BC Transit will be taking over operation of the West Coast Trail System, which launched in 2024 and is currently operated by the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District.
