A father of two was killed while skiing in Lake Tahoe’s mountainous backcountry on Monday, the sheriff’s office said. El Dorado County emergency dispatchers received a 911 call just after 4 p.m. on February 17 about a skier who was missing near Luther Pass.

Snowshoes are available to rent at shops around Lake Tahoe, for use in areas including Tahoe City Winter Sports Park, Tahoe XC, North Tahoe Regional Park, Tahoe Meadows atop Highway 431, the Camp Richardson area, and Sugar Pine Point State Park.
