The Monterey City Council unanimously passed an emergency ordinance to stop new gun businesses from opening in the city, following public outcry over a new gun store opening on Ocean Avenue.

The Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni announced on Thursday that a man arrested for the 1982 murder and rape of a 5-year-old in Seaside will receive life in prison.
