Elon Musk-owned artificial intelligence firm xAI has bought a 1-million-square-foot property in Southwest Memphis, Tennessee, the Greater Memphis Chamber said on Friday, as the startup looks to expand its AI infrastructure amid intensifying competition in the industry.

Memphian Hailey Thomas launched a petition on Change.org to "push" Elon Musk's xAI out of South Memphis and reduce pollution within the region.

AI announced plans to expand in Memphis on Friday with the purchase of a 1 million square-foot property in Southwest Memphis, according to the Greater Memphis Chamber.
