Thousands are without power Wednesday morning as wintry weather and ice are reported around western North Carolina.

“There are blue precincts that are getting bluer by the minute, red precincts that are getting redder by the minute and an incredibly small number that cross over between the two,” Cooper said.

Umbrellas and warm winter layers are needed this week. High temperatures may linger in the 30s and 40s through midweek.
