Microsoft on Tuesday announced the 'general availability' (GA) commercial release of the Flexible Server deployment option for the Azure Database for PostgreSQL service.

Microsoft this week announced the commercial availability of Azure Database services for both MySQL and PostgreSQL.

Until now, to use MySQL or PostgreSQL on Azure, they would have had to spin up virtual machines to run and operate those database systems themselves.

In addition, the Azure Database Services for MySQL and PostgreSQL are generally available, providing customers with fully managed homes for their open source databases in Microsoft’s cloud.

Separately, Microsoft revealed that Flexible Server — a deployment option for Azure Database for MySQL and Azure Database for PostgreSQL — will launch in general availability this month.
