Northwestern University and four other schools are under investigation by the U.S. Department of Education for what the federal agency is calling “widespread antisemitic harassment” after mass student protests that broke out last spring against the Israel-Hamas war.

The Education Department announced Monday that it would conduct investigations at five universities where antisemitic harassment incidents have been reported.

Following an executive order — signed Jan. 29 — designed to combat antisemitism, the U.S. Department of Education launched investigations into five institutions of higher education Monday, including Northwestern.
