A 28-year-old man was arrested Sunday after a fight over a bench escalated into a shooting in Denver’s Washington Park, where hundreds of people had gathered to enjoy the break from wintry weather, police said Monday.

Ryan Egelston is accused of shooting at a person when that person asked to share the bench he was sitting on. He then shot at another person, court documents show.

Denver police are investigating a shooting at Washington Park, the popular 155-acre park that spans several blocks, Sunday afternoon. Few details were immediately available but DPD said it was investigating a shooting there around 2:45 p.m. Multiple Denver cruisers were seen racing to the park with lights and sirens on.
