Planes carry transponders that transmit their real-time location. The Alaska plane stopped sharing that data on Thursday.

The Cessna, operated by Bering Air, went off the radar and lost radio contact minutes before it was scheduled to land in Nome.

Three people were found inside the aircraft and "reported to be deceased," the U.S. Coast Guard in Alaska said on X. The remaining seven people were also believed to be inside but were "currently inaccessible due to the condition of the plane,

The wreckage of a small commercial passenger plane that went missing in freezing, windy conditions over the Bering Sea was found Friday, officials said. All 10 onboard are presumed dead. Rescuers on Friday were able to see three deceased people inside the wreckage,
