From Android version 1.5 to 9, every release was named after a common dessert with the succeeding letter in the alphabet. However, in 2018, Google switched back to the regular numeric system.
Considering there aren’t too terribly many desserts that start with the letter U, it’s not much of a surprise that Google chose Upside Down Cake to be the codename for Android 14.
The Android 16 codename has been revealed, and it isn't at all what you're expecting. In fact, it doesn't start with the letter "W" at all!
