Investigators layer the photos on top of the scans and develop a full diagram of the scene. The machine also has software that helps create interactive 3-D diagrams of the crime scene.

The scanner, called the Leica RTC360, provides a digital 3D diagram of a scene, showing measurements and dimensions. It's used at major crime scenes, usually involving a death, or crashes.
