Oilers Should Sign Brandon Saad
The St. Louis Blues announced they will be placing forward Brandon Saad on unconditional waivers on Thursday (Jan. 30) for purpose of contract termination, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Saad was drafted 43rd overall by the Blackhawks in 2011 and appeared in two games that following season. He split his rookie season as a 20-year-old between the AHL and NHL where he finished the season by winning the Stanley Cup. At 22, Saad also won it again, except this time making a larger impact with eight goals.
Although it would be sentimental for the Blackhawks to claim Saad, it would be a terrible move. They were already on the losing side of three trades involving Saad so they don’t need to claim him now at this stage of his career with that cap hit.
