Ailing defending champion Jannik Sinner admitted he was fortunate to survive a fourth-round battle with Holger Rune at the Australian Open.

Monfils upset fourth-seeded Taylor Fritz of the United States 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (1), 6-4 in the third round at Melbourne, Australia. When Monfils made his Australian Open debut in 2005, Fritz, now 27 years old, was 7.

The World No. 1, despite feeling unwell in sweltering conditions, kept up his title defense with a four-set triumph.

In the quarterfinals, Sinner will face No. 8 Alex de Minaur of Australia, who ousted American Alex Michelsen 6-0, 7-6 (5), 6-3. It will be the first quarterfinals appearance for de Minaur in his home country's Grand Slam, and he became just the third Aussie man to reach the round in 20 years.

Jannik Sinner advanced to the Australian Open quarter-finals, overcoming illness, while Lorenzo Sonego ended Learner Tien's dream run. Madison Keys surprised Elena Rybakina, and Elina Svitolina uplifted Ukraine by defeating Veronika Kudermetova.
