North Fork wildfire in McDowell County reaches 80% containment, still under investigation
MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — We have an update on a McDowell County wildfire burning since last week. The U.S. Forest Service said the North Fork fire remains at 644 acres with 80% containment. The fire is burning north of Marion on forest service land fueled mainly by downed trees and other debris from Helene.
'Out-of-control' wildfire forces evacuations in McDowell County
One fire remains after three wildfires began earlier this week in McDowell County. McDowell County Emergency Management said that the wildfire in Old Fort is currently 15% contained, but evacuation orders remain in place. The wildfire, burning in the Crooked Creek community, is estimated to cover 250 acres.
North Fork Fire burns 350 acres, crews reach 40% containment
The North Fork Fire burning north of Marion is now 40% contained and has scorched 350 acres, according to an update from the U.S. Forest Service.
North Fork Fire in McDowell County grows to 200 acres; Crooked Creek Fire 100% contained
McDowell County on the North Fork Fire, which has grown to 200 acres and is 20% contained. McDowell County Emergency Services first reported the fire at about 4 p.m. Jan. 29 in the area of Good Road in the Woodlawn Community of Marion.
