Canada is listing seven Latin American criminal organizations as terrorist entities under the criminal code, giving Canadian law enforcement another tool in the fight against fentanyl trafficking, authorities say.

Mexico’s Sinaloa and Jalisco cartels, Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua and the Salvadoran gang Mara Salvatrucha are on the list.

The United States government is formally designating eight Latin American organized crime groups that also operate in the U.S. to be “foreign terrorist organizations.”
