A grand jury in Oneida County has handed up a sealed indictment in the homicide of Robert L. Brooks, who died after he was beaten by multiple correction officers at Marcy Correctional Facility in December.

The autopsy reported that Brooks died from “compression of the neck and multiple blunt-impact injuries,” a family lawyer said.

Brooks wasn’t able to join the “second-chance club,” as his father called it, after corrections officers violently beat him to death two months ago in a Central New York prison. On Thursday, Brooks' father, Robert Ricks, spoke at a joint state Assembly and Senate budget hearing held in the Legislative Office Building in Albany.

Eric Schneiderman is advising the father of Brooks, who was beaten to death in an upstate prison late last year.
