Santa Monica will not host beach volleyball during the 2028 Summer Olympics after nearly two years of negotiations between city officials and LA28, the Los Angeles Olympic organizing committee, ended formal talks,

Mayor Lana Negrete, who co-sponsored the discussion item, said there has been "even more crime" over the past 24 months on Santa Monica State Beach, including "murders, rapes and accidental deaths" ( "Homicide Victim Found on Beach," February 10, 2025 ).

Talks have broken down between Santa Monica and Los Angeles 2028 Olympic organizers over the city potentially playing host to beach volleyball competitions.
