After an agonizing wait, Nintendo finally revealed more details on the Switch 2 during a Direct presentation on the morning of April 2nd. While Nintendo told us very little in the official reveal of the console in January, the company announced during the Direct that the Switch 2 would launch on June 5th and cost $449.99.
If you were handed a Nintendo Switch 2, you might not initially realize it. Sure, it might feel a little bigger in the hand, but otherwise the experience of holding Nintendo’s long-awaited follow-up feels familiar, with all the pluses and minuses that go along with that.
As part of yesterday's Ask the Developer Vol. 16 Nintendo Switch 2, the console's designers were asked a whole bunch of in-depth questions about various technical aspects of their new baby. One of the more interesting parts of the interview was when they discussed redesigning the Switch, and all of its component parts, from scratch.
The Switch 2 Pro Controller will also have two extra buttons not found on the Joy-Con 2. These buttons, GL and GR, can be assigned to any button input the player wants, whether it's something important while playing or using one as a Capture button so players don't have to take their thumb off the analog stick.
Back when the original Switch launched, I picked up a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller with it as I preferred its larger buttons and full-size thumbsticks over the ones in the Joy-C
