The earliest Western dining traditions were documented by the Ancient Greeks. Table-setting scenes are found in the Old Testament and in the writings of Homer.

Cathy Bennett of Portland discovered the table setting competition about 10 years ago and won a blue ribbon on her first try. Since then, her results at the Oregon State Fair have been mixed.
