Two people were found dead following a late-night house fire in rural Garden City, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

A late-night fire in Union City destroyed a home. Calls for the fire went out just before 10:15 pm at a house in the 34000 block of Mount Pleasant Road. When crews arrived, the house was engulfed in flames and was eventually knocked down.

UPDATE, 2 a.m. Saturday, March 22: Fire crews were still working to extinguish the final flames from the Friday night fire at Beatrice's abandoned Dempster Manufacturing plant after 2 a.m. Saturday - meaning a fire that reportedly began around 9:15 p.m. Friday took at least five hours to fully contain.

Firefighters battled a large fire that broke out Wednesday night at a maintenance building owned by Suburban Lawn & Garden near 138th Street and Wyandotte Avenue. Kansas City Fire Department crews arrived to find the building engulfed in heavy flames.
