Feb. 1 (UPI) -- More than 50 people were killed in Sudan Saturday after artillery explosions at an outdoor vegetable market. At least 158 more people were injured in the attacks, which were carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces group, according to government officials.

Sudan’s health authorities say a notorious paramilitary group fighting against the country’s military has attacked an open market in the city of Omdurman.

At least 54 people were killed in an attack on a crowded market in the Sudanese city of Omdurman, the Health Ministry said. The attack was blamed on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group that has been locked in a brutal power struggle with Sudanese troops since April 2023.
