The six-time major champion is expected to return next week for LIV Golf’s second tournament, Ollie Schniederjans will replace him in Saudi Arabia.

LIV Golf's season-opening event this week will be played under the lights in Saudi Arabia, but one of the tour's brightest stars won't be there. Phil Mickelson announced on Monday that he has withdrawn from the LIV Riyadh event due to a minor shoulder injury suffered in the gym recently.

This adjustment in his plans brings Ollie Schniederjans in as his replacement. Schniederjans, who recently claimed victory on the Asian Tour—his first in nine years—has been selected to fill Mickelson's spot in the Saudi Arabia event.

Six-time major champion Phil Mickelson announced Monday that he won’t compete in LIV Golf’s season-opening tournament in Saudi Arabia Feb. 6-8 after he suffered what he called a minor shoulder injury in the gym. The injury is not considered serious and Mickelson said he is planning in LIV’s second event in Adelaide, Australia.
