The lift is on the inside. The CN tower has a picture that looks like the lift is outside the building. Its a deception. They pack the elevator with as many people as they can. The lift is very old. We where scared that the lift would fall because of weight issues. We could not take any pictures of the outside because too many people were blocking the windows Also, the restaurant has very tasty good food. If you are on a budget, I suggest you do just the lift. We spent over 200 dollars for a small plate of food. Also, watch that tip button. The waitress stands over you to see how much you tip. If she does not like the tip amount, you will be shunned for the rest of your sit down.

Just walk to the booth at the CN tower and they will take your money for the attraction. No cash allowed for payment. You have to pay by credit card. Make sure you Specify what you want to do in the tower. We just wanted to eat dinner but they charged us for the lift and just to look out the window. The ticket booth has a lot of gimmicky prices. If you want to do just the lift, Make it clear! They use your credit card to put additional charges on it if you do not specify what you want to do inside the tower.
